ABOUT

My mascot, Plyso!
Hi there! My artist name is Seyumei and I'm currently based in the Pacific Northwest of the US! My freelance art career spans over a decade of creating numerous illustrations, game/website assets and animations for various clients. I also do comics and worldbuilding development on the side. Due to my strong desire of wanting to see my visions come alive, I've kinda taught myself a little bit of everything in the 2D space at least! When I'm not working on art, my other hobbies include hiking, nature photography and collecting goat content.
A Brief History on my Influences and Artistic Identity
I had an early fascination for Vpets (virtual pets) and monster collection games as a child, which eventually evolved into an interest in zoology and iconography from mythology/ religion/folklore. It's where a lot of the inspiration for those creatures came from!I also developed an early interest in Shonen anime and RPGs (as it was closely adjacent to my previous interest), so naturally it became a strong influence on my art style and storytelling, namely with lively colors/expressions and supernatural elements. As I got older and discovered that I had a queer-aligned identity, I had a strong desire to tell stories through the lens of individuals who didn't fit usual societal conventions or status quos, which allowed me to explore more mature and deeper topics in my storytelling.Over time, I've refined and developed my own art and creations into becoming a reflection of all the things that inspired me and shaped who I am. Hopefully you can see the influences there! My main goal as an artist is to create (or help create) things that would've inspired me when I was younger, but for future generations. I figure if my creations could influence someone's life positively in any way, then that would be enough to give my whole life's work meaning.

ORIGINAL PROJECTS
Artwork I've done for my own original projects/IPs. Most of them are made for a passion project with a placeholder name called "World of Pelepia", which is a collection of stories revolving around the coexistence between different intelligent species and powerful/supernatural forces. All of my characters and stories are interwoven in the same universe and world, just in different time periods. Each part influences the next in some way.A website is currently in the works to serve as a "wiki" for my worldbuilding. It'll be linked here when its finished!
The incubus prince / Bromodachis / Fur-omodachis
(All titles contain 18+ and LGBT+ content)
The Incubus Prince is an in progress novel/illustration collection that follows the unorthodox life of an incubus demon named Sky who was raised and believed to be a human. While initially being beloved by all, he begins to struggle with his identity as he learns and discovers more about himself over time, eventually having to face his predestined fate.Bromodachis (play on of "bromance" and "tomodachi") is a random comic/illustration collection depicting Sky's relationship with Keith, a criminal mechanic he bonds with in the last part of The Incubus Prince. The stories take place after the events of The Incubus Prince and usually have a more lighthearted tone.Fur-omodachis is a Furry AU spinoff of Bromodachis. The premise is pretty much the same, but instead of being an incubus and a human from the main series, its with Sky in his demon goat form and Keith as his doberman fursona.

FAQ

Why is your name "Seyumei"?
"Seyumei" is just a mashup of parts from my real name. I mainly wanted an internet alias that was simple and easy to remember, nothin' too fancy.
What are your pronouns/gender?
I like to keep an anonymous/androgynous presence online as a way to avoid prejudgements and stereotypes people often make based on gender. I'd rather let my art speak for itself while not being tied to any biases, if that makes sense. Who or what I am isn't really important, but I won't take offense to any pronoun you use for me!
What is that symbol next to your logo?
That star-like symbol is called the "Infinity Star", which is a reoccurring symbol that appears in my stories. It's basically an icon that represents what the people in my stories believe to be their creator, and has been used as a symbol for both good and evil/corruption depending on the character. Ultimately though, I wanted it to be sort of an amalgamative symbol for all my creative works. It kind of looks like a pen when tilted sideways!
What programs do you use to make your art?
I use Clip Studio Paint EX for pretty much everything! Such as general drawing, BG painting, 2D animation and graphic design. If you want an "all in one" art program, I can't recommend this one enough! Sometimes I also use Adobe Premiere and After Effects for compositing more complex animations. As for drawing tablets, I use a Wacom Cintiq 16 Pro and sometimes an iPad (with Procreate) when I'm on the go.
Can I post/share your art somewhere?
I strictly prohibit reposting my art on Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram only. But if it's a site that I don't have an account on (like Reddit, E621, ect), I'm totally fine with sharing it as long as proper credit and a link back is given to me. But if you're on a social media platform like Twitter, I go by @seyumei on most places and you can probably find my art already posted there. Please share that post instead of creating your own!If the artwork I made was specifically for you though, you're free to post it wherever you like!
Can I use your artwork for something?
If the artwork was made for someone else (such as a commission/trade/gift), please do not use it at all in respect for that person, unless you know the client and have gotten permission.I do allow my general, non-commissioned art to be used in some cases. However, please ask and credit me before you do so!
But you can ONLY use it for:- pfp/avatars
- personal wallpapers/banners
- references for your own art for non-commercial use (tattoos/sculptures/trad. art ect.)Everything else is strictly off limits due to the fact that I've had to deal with a lot of IP theft in the past. Thieves and non-creditors will not be tolerated.
Can I draw your characters?
YES. ABSOLUTELY. I'm always super happy to get fanart from anyone! You're free to choose and do whatever you'd like with my characters, but if you have something more suggestive in mind, please talk to me about it first! Here's a detailed list of things I allow/don't allow with my characters: HEREYou can send fanart to me by tagging me @seyumei on social media, but in case I miss your tag or if you want to give it to me privately, you can also DM or send it to [email protected] so I can give it the proper love it deserves!(PS: If you'd like to give me a gift, I'd probably prefer art of my characters over anything else haha.)
Do you do art requests/trades/commissions/collabs?
Requests: You can send me suggestions for fanart or ideas for my characters, but whether I actually do it depends on my interest/time. Otherwise no, I don't work for free.Trades: Very rarely, and usually only with close friends I can trust.Commissions: Occasionally! You can check my current status on commission openings HERE!Collabs: Depends on the project and if it fits my interest. I may be more receptive if it's a large multi-person collab, but if it's just between me and one person, then it's usually the same deal as art trades.
Do you sell your art?
I do! You can click the SHOP link on the above tabs to see my wares! I also sell merchandise of my artwork occasionally at cons! You can see example photos: HEREHowever I do not sell off rights to any of my artworks unless it was commissioned piece and agreed upon beforehand. Any inquiries about "purchasing" rights to my artwork will be assumed spam and promptly ignored.
How long does it take you to draw a picture?
It depends how complicated the picture is, but usually 3 days to a week for standard rendered illustrations. Portraits may only take 1-3 days. Animations and comics may take up to 1-2 weeks.
How long have you've been drawing?
Pretty much all my life. But I didn't focus on actually improving and learning my foundations until high school.
Why did you start drawing?
My ABOUT page has a little brief history on how I started as an artist and what influenced me!
Can I ask for artist advice?
Of course! I'm always happy to help. However, I tend to get the same questions a lot, so I'm working on a "resources" page where budding artists easily can go for advice. Here's a few guides I've written that may be of help:
Art Commissions: Tips for Artists and Clients
Why New Art Sites Don't Work in Current Year
Painting and Stylizing Fur Tutorial (a bit old and outdated, but still works)
Why goats?
It all started when I decided to make Sky's (one of my main characters) canon fursona a goat, and then it went all downhill from there.
What is your stance on AI art?
The thing about AI art is that its actually not "art". Art is how humans express emotions and ideas. When you take away the "human" element from that, all your left with is an image generator, which can only take steal and learn from what has already been made. What does it do afterwards? It "auto-Photoshop" it into the most "status quo", boring, uninspiring images ever, prompted by the most creatively bankrupt people ever. And what is it even used for? Making fake stuff to scam people with? No one is going to voluntarily consume/buy "art" that no one made (unless they are tricked or have no taste), because the whole point of art IS the human experience. And here's the thing, I'm not even anti-technology. If new tech can help you get mundane/technical tasks out the way faster, I'm all for it, but it should have NEVER been a replacement for human creativity. The way generative AI scrapes and steals billions of data from creative works, from millions of fellow artists without consent is vile and should have never gotten this out of control. At its current state, all AI "art" does is embolden greedy corpos to destroy people's livelihoods, drain the planet of resources, make everyone's lives increasingly miserable, kill creativity/free thought, and contribute to making the world an uglier, duller place until it becomes a gray sludge singularity. So in defiance, I continue to "waste time" making art, just to add little sprinkles of hope, despite it all.Rant over, lol.
I hate you.
